Visit to Des Moines, IA – SILKROAD

Silkroad musicians Cristina Pato (Galicia) and Shane Shanahan (USA) will travel to Des Moines, IA, for a teaching artist visit at Madison Elementary School as part of our ongoing partnership with Turnaround Arts.

The Turnaround Arts initiative was established in 2012 by the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities (PCAH) as a way to use the arts to transform our nation’s lowest performing schools. In addition to Madison Elementary School, Silkroad has supported two other Turnaround schools—Lame Deer Jr. High in Lame Deer, MT, and Orchard Gardens K-8 in Boston, MA. The Silk Road Ensemble was officially named PCAH Turnaround Artists in 2014.
